After a nearly normal night of regular sleep, its easy to think about a few new pictures.

Thankfully, Charlie has taken to sleeping in his bassinette.  Every other night this blows up and nobody sleeps much.  Last night was very livable.  We put him down at 9:30.  After 15 minutes of tears u he fell asleep, waking every every three hours to feed and returning to the bassinette without complaint.  Woohoo

So far for the first 6 weeks Charlie's world has been one of two emotional states.  Upset and not-upset.  Maybe three if you add in angry.  I think I'm beginning to see traces of a few other things.

When we lay him in his crib, he intently watches the mobile go round.  Eyes tracking a single item for several revolutions.  Fascination

When we lay him on his tummy, he tries to get into push position and grunts and he struggles to raise his face off the ground.  First determination and then brittle frustration.

Others swear he's smiled that them, but I'm unconvinced.

I talk to Charlie as though he was worth the respect any person merits.  I think of him as a little person and not a baby.  No one can prove he doesn't follow what I'm communicating, I believe he lacks the development to respond in any meaningful way.

So I took him to work yesterday,  he didn't contribute much, but he may have been trying to point out that the computer I was fixing for a co-worker was still under warranty and didn't need me pulling it's innards out.

The new emotion that is most easily captured is anxiety.  Put Charlie down while he's away and walk ten feet away.  This always happens.
