So people ask me all the time when new photos of baby Charlie will be up.
"What's the deal?" they ask.
Culture shock when Amy and I moved to Italy wasn't a bad as this.
| Three weeks ago Amy and I were in labor at the hospital.
We'd spent the better part of eight months getting ready for that long night
and it paid off. We were in hospital for nearly 12 hours before
Charlie came out to join us. The months of reading prepared us for the
agony and drain of the long night. |
 |
| Charlie's been in the world now almost 500 hours. We
spent about 15 minutes reading about the life and care of a newborn.
Fortunately Charlie sleeps a lot. Actually that's about it.
That's his thing, his skill. I call him pudding boy because he pretty
much is boneless and flops anywhere. Not that exciting.
Although he has made a personal vow not to sleep between the hours of 11
PM and 5 AM.

I can't even begin to describe how much my life has changed in 500 hours.
Three weeks ago:
- I thought 7 hours sleep was necessary for survival and 8 for sanity
- I made fun of people who referred to themselves in the third person alla
"Daddy Loves Charlie"
- I thought babies should cry themselves to sleep
- I thought you could get cooties from baby poop
- I believed I could be in control of my life
So why no new pictures? Cause I'm focused on not falling asleep at my
desk while I'm at work and I'm trying to keep my wife sane while I'm at home.
They say the first 6 weeks are the worst. Well, we're halfway.
In the meanwhile, Grandma and Grandpa Cormode came from North Carolina (after
being delayed by damage from Hurricane Isabel). Grandma Charlea loved
holding Charlie. Grandpa enjoyed being able to multitask.
